Echo Arena Liverpool is the arena half of ACC (Arena and Convention Centre) Liverpool situated on the Liverpool Docks which opened in January 2008. The BT Convention Centre forms the other half of the complex. The Arena and Convention Centre as a whole was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during their visit to Liverpool on 22 May 2008.

The arena has 7,513 permanent seats around three sides of a central floor suitable for indoor sports events. The capacity for end-stage or in-the-round concerts is 10,600 including floor seating. With floor standing, the capacity is increased to 11,000.

The arena and convention centre complex is capable of hosting a whole range of events including music concerts, conventions, sporting events, children's entertainment and more. Since the arena's opening in 2008, it has regularly played host to many of the world's top musical acts. Many world famous artists including Oasis, Lady Gaga, Nickelback, Queen + Paul Rodgers, Rihanna and Beyoncé have performed at the Arena, with the latter on three separate occasions in the space of a year. As well as concerts, the arena has also hosted a number of major international events.

On 6 November 2008 the arena hosted the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards, whilst on 14 December 2008 it was the venue for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show.

Since its completion in 2008 the arena has become home to the Liverpool Summer Pops Festival, which takes place each year. The festival, which until previous years had operated from a huge big top tent, regularly attracts a number of well known popular artists.

The Echo Arena is set to hold host to the MOBO Awards on 20 October 2010, this will be only the second time that the awards have been held outside of London.

The Echo Arena has managed to host numerous sporting events in the limited time it has been open, despite a busy concert schedule. The arena sometimes plays host to the Everton Tigers, Liverpool's only semi-professional basketball team, who have played a number of games in the Echo over the past few years. A number of international sporting events have been held inside the arena, such as Britain's Davis Cup tie against Poland in September 2009 and the Britain women's handball team's match against Finland in the same month.

The arena also plays host to many regular sporting events such as, Boxing, WWE, British Supercross, Premier League Darts, International squash, Masters Football and many others. In 2008 the Echo Arena hosted the annual Firefighter Games. The Arena was also the starting point for the 2010 Liverpool Half Marathon.
